The Open Door Medical Foundation was approved by the Romanian government in October of 1997, and is founded by four members: two American and two Romanians doctors. Drs. Milton and Linda Hanson are two American Board Certified Family Physicians who have lived in Romania since July of 1994. The Romanian members of the Foundation are Dr. Ruxanda Dumitrescu, and Dr. Gabriela Talbur, both of Bucharest.

The overall goal of the Foundation is to establish a medical clinic that will provide quality medical care for needy Romanians. This clinic will also be a means for teaching and modeling Family Practice medicine to general practice doctors and residents in the general practice residency program in Bucharest.

Open Door Medical Ministries purchased 2300 square meters 5 miles from the center of Bucharest for the clinic site in September of 1998. The construction of the clinic began in May 2000. The clinic was dedicated September 22, 2001. This picture was taken fall 2002. see more pictures

Milton and Linda (Burns) Hanson, M.D.s, have been serving the Lord in Romania as medical missionaries since 1994. Both "docs" were very successful highly-respected family practitioners in the Minneapolis area until they felt the Lord's urging to be so strong that they embarked on their mission to work in one of the poorest former Communist countries.

They are sponsored for their own modest personal financial support as well their prayer support by World Mission Prayer League , a Bible-based Lutheran mission and prayer organization. They have become reasonably fluent in Romanian, and worked part-time with World Vision International in Primary Health Care projects until the end of September 1997. The main project assisted the University of Cluj Medical School in introducing preventive health care courses into its curriculum.

Ongoing financial support from private donations is needed so that the Hansons can fulfill the Lord's calling to provide a Christian witness to patients and physicians....to share the abundant life that can only come from having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.....and to share their God-given gift of healing for the health care of a people who have so long been neglected.
